Perth Mint Lunar Coin Mintage Numbers Soon!
 

HI FOLKS -

I posted this on the end of an older thread - but I am not sure anyone will see it there - so I decided to make it its own thread!

First - I called my contacts at the Perth Mint, and spent a half-hour on the phone beating them up verbally (but nicely :wink:, they are very nice people) over their not posting final mintages for the bullion Lunar coins in gold and silver. Seems that they had a number of changes and restructurings going on over the last few months, so they have been very busy trying to sort things out there.

That was one reasons why, at the last minute last year, they did all three of the final silver coins (rat, tiger & ox) after saying they were going to release them once a year as they had been........seems there was some government law on the books with the Treasury, forcing them to get them done and the series in line with the gold series.....so they had to release them all at once.

ANYWAY - they will not have numbers for the proof of the last three coins because they still have not put those out...........but they DID tell me they are working on the mintages for those released already and HOPED to have it ready to go up in the next 4-6 weeks.

They also said (tho who knows if they will) send me an email with the numbers so I can post them here as soon as they are released.

And - best of all for me - some of you might remember that I proposed an additional coin - not part of the Chinese zodiac, but equally as important to the Asian world - the Phoenix - and I was just told they ARE discussing it!!! So its still a go at this point!!!!

As soon as the mintage numbers come in (IF they actually do email me) I promise to post them for us all!!!

Whoa, so they're going to make a phoenix coin? I'd be interested in a gold coin if it's with limited mintage (hopefully less than the dragon).

We do not know that yet -

When I first brought it up the Perth Mint thought it was a great idea - but like most things - had to go thru a number of committees.....the news is that they are still persuing it........but we're not sure they are going to make it - however - if they decide NOT to (and right now it seems to be on track) - I have someone else who asked me if they could use my idea and I said yes!

So sooner or later........one way or the other.............

Ummm.......no, its got nothing to do with the 2008 GIM rounds........I know I suggested the Silver Sammy for real - and alerted the mods to the thread - but I am not aware of any definite 2008 GIM rounds.

The Phoenix was a mythical bird (or an Xmen depending)

But then I told her there was a coin that really sought to be minted that was not technically part of the lunar series but would sell extremely well.............The Phoenix!

One reason your dragon coin sold so well was because, not only did people who are Dragon signs buy it - but its the most exalted of the 12 signs in Chinese astrology and therefore, as a symbol, you see it everywhere in the orient - from restaurants to businesses to bakeries to laundries.........but the OTHER symbol that is equally as popular for many of the same reasons, is the Phoenix!

So I suggested you make a gold and silver one!

Now, if you us my idea, I would LOVE it if you'd send me a coin (but I know that's not going to happen..........any more than my other funny idea of writing my name along the outside edge of the coin to show it was my idea! *w*) but it would be nice if the Mint could maybe send me a quick note letting me know they decided to use the idea - cause no one I know on the site I chat and talk about the lunar series (Goldismoney.info) will believe for a second I suggested it if it comes out..........hell, even my mother would think I was lying! *lol*

However, you can send a coin to if you'd like!

Remember a while back, a year or better, we had a GIM member tagged Phoenix Dollar. He has a silver organization by the same name and minted his own 1, 10 & 100's. He sent me some to photo, unusual designs but nice. Another example. The 1st shot wasn't really serious, it was just a test of a type of modification, not detailed.
